unlocking - conflicting IMEI nos

Hi,

It is interesting to see how ATT comes up with reasons ( I love being a ATT customer and will continue to be!)

I am with ATT for 3 years. Renewed the contract last year with a new phone. I am out of the country for a business trip. Wanted to unlock the phone. Paid early termination fee and submitted the request.

Alas! All the bad reviews about ATT on the internet was on my screen for no reason!

ATT says that the IMEI I submitted is being used by another person. How is this possible?. I have the phone infront of me and I know it is from ATT.

One suspect is,  few months ago I returned the phone I bought  because of a problem and ATT sent me back another phone. I know that ATT sends back a phone which was repaired and tested. So, it is clear that I was given a replacement phone which was used by some one and the database with that ex holder`s account still has that IMEI of my phone. This is the only possbile reason why ATT would say that the IMEI no is still active on another person`s phone.

I clearly do not see where I can be a skape goat. Now their poor data management can lead to alot of security compromises too. I am stuck with out being able to call my friends in US now..and customer serivce people have told me that they want me to come back to US to sort this out. I will be coming back to US after 6 months.

Who is answerable to the frustration I am going thru inspite of paying every single penny left to clear the accounts?
