A little background, i have a 10 GB Mobile Share Plan with 2 phones. One is a Basic QMD and the other is a Galaxy 4. The Galaxy 4 was obtained as an upgrade on the Basic phone but used on the second line, as a replacement for an Iphone 4.
I did not want to extend the contract for the smart phone line as she may go on her mothers plan in the near future.
My QMD is adaquate, but its almost 6 years old and is now showing some erratic behavior. I have a Samsung Rugby Smart that i got to use as a backup, if she lost/broke her good phone.
Now to the question.
I did the upgrade in Oct. 2013. On my OLAM it says i am able to upgrade via the NEXT program. When you look at the Mobile Share Plans explanation page, below the Bar Graph, there are some exceptions listed. The 3(three) asterics comment says:
*** For plans 10GB or higher, AT&T customers with smartphones on 2-year agreements as of 2/1/14 are eligible for $15/month access rate. For plans 2GB to 6GB, AT&T customers with smartphones on 2-year agreements as of 3/8/14 are eligible for $25/month access rate. To keep discounted pricing while upgrading to a new phone, you must purchase via AT&T Next, purchase at full price, or bring your own phone.
Normally, if i were to switch to my line to a smartphone, my line would go from $15 to $40. But by my thinking, this exception is stating i can switch my line to a Bring My Own smartphone and retain the $15 price, even tho my line is technically subsidizing another smartphone.
Am i reading this right? What are ya'lls thoughts? Not trying to game the system, but if this is correct, i won't have to find another Eternity, i can use the Rugby Smart i have.
