I was without a job for about a month. Not only did I fall behind with my rent and utilities, I fell behind on this bill as well. Then my phone was stolen. I had to have it replaced so potential employers could contact me. The deductible was added to my bill along with overages that accrued from participating in online (video) interviews. I explained that although I couldn't pay the amount past due as originally scheduled, I would pay $100 a month until my bill was paid off. I even made a good faith payment of $200 which brought my bill down to just under $400. I expected them to disconnect services. I understood that would happen. I told them I would pay my balance in $100 increments. They told me ok. But then today I called to make that $100 payment only to learn that they completely cancelled the service!!!! It hasn't even been 30 days since the service has been disconnected. They are demanding that I pay $1000+ in early termination fees when it wasn't my decision to terminate! If I were planning not to pay my bill, I would not had made the $200 payment!!!!!! That could have been put towards another more pressing bill! When I received my first check, I had to pay my rent and utilities. Now that I've earned my second check and can afford to get caught up with this AT&T bill, they have basically denied me the opportunity to do so. I don't think this is fair...at all. Why make me pay $1000 when all I owed was about $400? Why not give me at least 30 days to make good on the promise I made, especially since I made a $200 payment when I called less than 30 days ago. I am truly disappointed by their decision.Though the service was great in terms of call quality and coverage areas, their concern for customers and their level of flexibility is awful. Now, they will turn this account over to a collection agency, which will have a negative impact on my credit score. I will settle with the collection agency for about $200-300 dollars (which is what Att could have had--- along with a continuous paying customer) and will never do business with this company ever again. I currently have home Wi-Fi service through them, but will begin my search for a new service provider immediately. If you are considering AT&T for cell phone services, pray that you never fall on hard times...not even for a month. They will CANCEL your service even after you make a substantial payment, but will tell you just the opposite while they are accepting that payment. :-(
