I recently switched to AT&T from Verizon, who I have been with for about 15 years, due to a promotion I received in the mail for being a DirectTV customer. I was very clear with the sales rep that I was a single-mom and caretaker to my parents and needed to know exactly the amount of my bill each month and how much the "switch" was going to cost me. He quoted me a price and told me with my "credits" I would not have a bill for 2-3 months after the first bill. The first month's bill was more than double the price he stated. When I went back he explained that AT&T charged a month in advance. I paid half the bill and will pay the rest at the end of the month. This past week I recieved a bill from Verizon of over $700 which also must be paid by the end of the month. I specifically asked the rep if there would be any early termination fees from Verizon and he said no. When I went back to talk to him again about this he stated that there must have been some miscommunication and that the months I would not have a bill because of the credits were supposed to cover the termination fees from Verizon. This switch has cost me over $1000. I do not mind paying what I owe but I do mind not being told the truth and being led to believe something just so you can make a profit. I don't know if anything can be done or not but this is not the way to get or keep customers.
