Understanding final bill

O.K. here is the scoop…need some help understanding “final bill”.  Long story short I was a long time ATT customer.  I had three lines on my account…all three lines were and are out of contract…having been for almost a year.

Last week I inquired about upgrading our phones and plan.  I worked literally at the minimum of 8 hours through the ATT Premier website, along with live chat, in store visit, several customer service calls to no avail.  There was a website issue that kept my order from processing properly.  Long story short I left…I am now a Verizon customer.  Anyhow, that is a little background for the upcoming billing question.

My billing cycle always runs the 25th of each month to the 24th of the following month.  This is how it has always been.  I have always paid one month ahead ever since signing up.  For example:  Signing up on the 11 day of the month would result in the first bill showing a prorated amount from the 11 day to the 24 day of that particular month in addition to being billed from the 25th to the 24th of the following month.  Always, hate that first bill because it is so much compared to the rest of the contract months because you are paying for essentially the remainder of the current cycle and the next cycle.  Pretty simple; seemingly.  Here is my current problem.  Before I went with Verizon I asked the ATT customer support (persons) 3 of them whether I was obligated in any way to ATT since my contract on all three lines were up…the answer from all 3 was NO.  I would only be billed for any time from the 25th until service was discontinued (in this case the 27th) 3 days Max!

I signed up with Verizon on the 27th and they ported my numbers from ATT and my service ended with ATT at that time.  I get an email this weekend stating I owe for the entire amount from February 25 – March 24 and that I will be getting a final bill after paying this one haha (As of the February 27th my amount due showed $0.00 both via Website and verified by Customer Care Rep)

I called and without going into this further, was told yes you owe this amount in addition to charges that will be coming via a “final bill”.

Am I missing something here?  Should I now only owe for service dates of February 25th, 26th, and 27th?  Oh and another item that I was told by the Customer Service Manager I spoke to… I would be billed for porting my numbers to Verizon?  I checked with the FCC and it looks like that is a definite no, no on ATT’s part…I just want to see if anyone else had a similar experience and how it was resolved before I go through the process of doing a report for the BBB and the State Attorneys General’s office I have already submitted one to the FCC on this.
