We were camping in AZ over the weekend. The battery in our phone died, and we left it alone until the trip home. Once in the car, we headed home, plugged in the phone and drove. We were pinged with a bunch of messages, and the passenger leaned over to read them. On the Friday we left, we had a message that we were roaming from Mexico. We didn't get the message until we were driving home......away from the border. When we got home, we had a warning that we had over $100 in data charges. We later learned that we could block our phone from international roaming. Why is this not a known option, or the fall-back option when you are in the U.S. near a border?????? I think it's an incredible rip off on ATT's part. We were given a retroactive $30 internaional charge saving us some of the charges, but since we never left the country, used the phone, or knew we were being charged, I think it should be refunded totally and the policy should be changed. How does one get by the first line of defense of ATT......the customer service reps.......who have limited options to get a policy change???
