I recently purchased my iPhone 6 at a location in the northern suburbs of Buffalo. It was late November when I picked the phone up. I did at the time have a second line on the phone, and my goal at that time was to get the second line off my bill, and try and reduce my $145.00 a month bill that I have been paying for years. I was very clear to the sales rep that this was a major issue with me, and she was very understanding (so I thought). I did shop a few competitive phone companies at that time, but I am loyal, and decided to stay with AT@T.
When the day came that my phone order arrived, I was happy, I had been having nothing but problems with my iPhone 5 ever since I did the 8.1 upgrade. I need my phone for work (I am in sales), and I finally had a phone that I could rely on again. When I was in the store, the clerk asked me if I wanted a LG pad for only $.01. I was a bit taken back, however, I just figured it was a "Black Friday" promotion. I purchased the device, and planed on giving it away (I have a Samsung Galaxy pad, and had no use for it).
In December when my bill arrived, I was happy to see my bill was only $114.00 (at least it went down some,) I never even looked over the bill. I trusted that what I asked for was done, and simply paid the bill online. To my surprise the next month my bill was up to $140.00 again. What I did not know was that I was put on a 2 YEAR CONTRACT for the LG PAD at $11.00 a month. You can all do the math, I got duped into paying $250.00 for a pad I can buy online for $79.00! The sales rep never told me that this was being set up on a 2 year contract, as a matter of fact, she pretty much lied right to my face.
I have had my issues with AT@T in the past, but this is unreal. I blame myself for not reading everything line by line in the store before I left, but again, that is my stupidity for trusting people I have been doing business with for 20+ years. I realize have only been with AT@T for 20+ years, NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT, and many times PAY AHEAD. I fully understand that this is probably a practice taught to sales reps in stores to "increase sales", and take advantage of customers.
Needless to say, I am furious. I know AT@T is going to do nothing to assist me. I called the customer service line, and they told me I could cancel the second line for $149.00 (what a deal).
The bottom line is BUYER BEWARE. If anyone can not get taken like I did, then this message was worth typing. To AT@T we are not "customers", we are simply a "number". they could care less if you cancel your service. I am going to pay down this installment balance on my line very quicky, and get out from under this contract.
if it sound to good to be true...it is
