my warranty return??

My note 3 had stopped working and it was under warranty. So, at&t sent me a new one that was sent "FedEx". But, I had the phone sent to the at&t store so the transaction would be accounted for.
After picking up my new at&t replacement phone the at&t assistant helped me place the broken phone in the return box sent to me by the warranty Dept. Now that the broken phone is boxed up and return labels attached and tracking number in my hand, the at&t assistant sent me to "UPS" Delivery Store to drop the box off. The lady at the UPS Store took the box and that was it. (So I thought)
2 weeks later, at&t calls me and tells me to send the broken phone back or they will have to charge me 600.00 for it? I explained to them in detail what I did (as above) and they asked me to give them the tracking number to look it up? Ends up the tracking number I have is a tracking number for the "USPS"!!?? So I call the "UPS" store to find out what they have about the box?
They tell me that they have the box located in Fort Worth,Tx. But hasn't been scanned as received yet? At&t informs me that me sending it through "UPS" is my fault and if it doesn't arrive? I will be charged the $600.00?? I did EVERYTHING as at&t instructed me to, TO THE TEE!! and the box is located! Which shows I sent it! But that's not good enough to them?
What are my options?? The box was sent, it shows its sent (but hasn't arrived there yet) Its out of my hands now? That's the way I see it? Am I wrong?
