I have been a good long time customer to ATT. However, ATT is not treating me well.
I almost never make international call. But last month I had to make two long distance calls to Canada and Hong Kong. I usually use phone card or skype or whatever but in both cases, I was in super hurry and the internet reception was so bad that I just resorted to just dial it on my phone. I know it is a bad idea to just dial it using my phone but I imagined it wouldn't cost me that much. This is 2014. I can get free international calls using million other options so I would imagine ATT will just at most 10 cents per minute.
Today I checked my bill. My canada call is actually 40 cents per minute and my Hong Kong call is a jaw-dropping ridiculously expensive $3.50 per minute!! I can't imagine this is happening in 2014. And I did not get any warning messages at all about these charges while I am making these expensive calls.
I called customer service. All I got was: to avoid this unfortunate incident, you have to add the international calling plan from now on. She also said they sent out warning messages but I swear to god I didn't get these messages on my phone. If I got them, I would've stopped my calls right away.
I am extremely unhappy because I am not aware of or I can't even imagine the international charges would be that much in 2014. I stronlgy believe ATT is very tricky in this overcharging practice. Imagine if I accidently pocket-dial to my Hong Kong friend on my contact list, I am instantly charged $3.50 per minute. All customer rep said was: to avoid falling onto this 'trap', I have to add the international plan. I would never add this plan. ATT's reception is so bad. There are so many hidden charges. I am for sure going to switch to Verizon or T-mobile when iphone 6 is for sale. In the meantime, I will make sure when I make all international call using my phone card or and use other internet app under wifi (ATT mobile data reception is so bad everywhere).
