I was temporarily out of the country, so I asked my phone to be canceled on Feb. 16, 2016. The representative informed me that if I suspended rather than canceled, I would be charged for only about $10 per month and kept my number when I get back later this year. So instead of canceling, I agreed to suspend my line. For the last three months, my AT&T bill did not show $10 but $100+ dollars as I used to pay, but with busy schedule, I did not pay much attention. Finally, I decided to make an international phone call to customer service today. And the representative notified me that, since I did not specifically requested a "reduced rate suspension" but ordinary suspension, I had to pay the full amount to every month. This is corporate robbery clearly at works. Every sane person would understand that with a line suspension, you get to pay minimal amount as informed by the representative. This is how corporate America profit by taking advantage of their customers. When I complained about this injustice, the conversation went on for a minute and the phone line was disconnected. Instead of calling back, I am leaving this post so that every AT&T customer can be warned about what can happen to them when they put their blind faith in the company and its representatives. Of course I canceled the phone line as of today. I am so glad.
