Overcharges by AT&T after they received a phone back and they won't credit the overchages.

My wife bought a phone and service for an elderly aunt.  The aunt was too overwhelmed to use the mobile service.  We contacted AT&T to cancel the service.  At&T said to return the phone to them and they would cancel the service.  The phone was returned to AT&T and acknowledged as received.  AT&T continued to charge for the phone for several months.  Contacted AT&T billing and was told by "Taylor" that we would be credited.  After a few minutes on hold we received the word from "Taylor" stating we would not be credited the amount and we should have double checked the account to be sure it was cancelled.  She said it was AT&T error for not turning it off, but it was our fault because we did not double check on what they had said they would do.  Now after long discussion with Taylor and being refused a transfer to a supervisor, we are awaiting a call back from the mysteriously unavailable supervisor.  Great way to conduct business.
