Why am I being charged for a returned device??

I retuned my iPhone 6 Plus through AT&T next. I have my tracking number and confirmed the phone has been picked up and received at the final destination. I have called customer service four times now and every time I am told "there will be a credit" and to "wait a few days" ... This last time they said I should have the credit by Tuesday (TODAY) at the latest and alas the credit is not on my account. They told me AT&T made two prepaid labels for my phone, I used one but they were expecting a different one. Nevertheless they did say that I will not have to pay for the phone ... But I STILL haven't received a credit. What do I have to do to get this credit for the phone I returned???? I absolutely will not pay for something that I have proof of returning.

Let me tell you, I will never use AT&T next again. When this phone is due to upgrade I will send it elsewhere to get cash and pay the charge on my bill ... At least then I won't be out $300 ...
