What a great way to treat a loyal customer

I have been an AT &T customer since the early 90's.  Went through the different companies like cingular.  Last month I called and asked a customer service rep if their were any promotions for my account at this time. She answered no but said I see you have a suspended line, if you drop that line you will save money.  I told her ok then drop the line, she did and told me money monthly bill will be lower this month.  This month I go to pay my bill and it is $52.00 more.  I call and ask why and I am told it cosr $73.00 to cancel the suspended line.  I  cannot get AT&T to credit this amount, my contract is up in January and I think I am going to shop for a new provider that knows how to treat a loyal customer of 20 plus years.
