can't update credit card for auto-refill, instead "You have cancelled", heck of non-customer service

My credit card changed, so I got a text "Your GoPhone Auto Refill payment was unsuccessful. We will try the Auto Refill again in about 24 hours."

So I logged on to www.paygonline.com to change the credit card for my GoPhone auto refill so it would succeed.

Eventually I found a page where I could add a credit card. I did so, making the new card the default.

I can't remember exactly what I did, and Bug: the title of every page on paygonline.com is "GoPhone" so I can't figure it out from my browser history.

But I wound up with paygonline.com showing "Auto Refill is OFF for this plan.", and I got a text "You have cancelled your GoPhone AutoRefilll..." ?!?

So I clicked [Set up Auto-Refill], and that failed with

Error! Auto Refill enrollment is currently unavailable.
Please try your request again in 2 days.

Bug: Is AT&T going to retry my account or not?

Bug: What the heck is this "2 days" thing? Is it because my credit card payment was unsuccessful, or because you're trying to stop me paying twice for service?  Explain what's going on.

Bug: why can't your web site realize that your own system had trouble with my CC, realize I'm trying to fix it, and let me help AT&T by retrying with a new credit card immediately instead of this stupid "We will try the Auto Refill again in about 24 hours" or "waste another half hour on our website in 2 days".

So right now I don't know if I have GoPhone service or not. I don't know if AT&T is going to retry Auto Refill or not. I don't know if I should make a payment or not. I don't need this aggravation. I'm looking for a different cellular provider that isn't big dumb and stupid.

It really feels like AT&T's billing system is a 1960s mainframe and every day a truck drives over to it filled with punch cards.

Your web site says

If you receive an order denied or order failed error message when making a credit or debit card payment ensure the card number, expiration date and security code are correct. If you still receive an error please try another card or call us at 800.901.9878 or 611 from your AT&T wireless device.

That's a little unclear, because GoPhone had the problem, not me. Anyway I called the 800 number, which was its own misery. That will let me make a payment to an existing credit card, but won't let me add a credit card. There's no way to get to a human for GoPhone billing problems; when I choose Tech Support > Other it bounces me to a different phone system that eventually tells me AT&T is closed for the weekend.

(And no, I'm not going to install the myAT&T app. "myAT&T needs access to Location, Photos, Camera/Microphone, ..." just so I can give you my money?)
