Sudden data overages

My daughter uses an iPhone 4 and an iPad mostly for school. This past month she had reached her data limit several times, (@ $10 a pop) prompting me to upgrade her phone to the 5 gb plan at $50. Less than a week later she's reached her limit again! Like me, her phone is attached to her hand all the time, but I unlike her I have the grandfathered unlimited plan (let's not even get in to the throttling issue). Looking at the statement I can see she's being billed for huge amounts of data every time she uses her phone, and even when she's asleep at 4:30 in the morning. Her phone habits have not changed with the exception that she's using it less overall because she's in school all day. We track her usage with TeenSafe and know what she is doing on there. What has changed with either Apple or AT&T in the last month that is costing me an arm and a leg? I did turn off her mobile data last night, and that option for each app using it. My monthly phone bill for a family of four is up to $300 per month, and 2 of us have the unlimited data plan. I've already reduced my cable bill by more than half. Next step is to switch cell phone service?
