Why am I paying for insurance when att doesn't even let me get a new phone

I have been paying insurance for my phone for the past year and a half and I go in to get a new phone to file a claim and I get denied of getting a new phone att clearly told me i could but I call att customer service and they make me do all this crap. First insurance denies me for a new phone because don't know why but in system they had the imei of my iPhone 6 and they were saying it was a iPhone 5 but clearly it was my iPhone 6. They supposibly fixed he issue file a claim again and they deny me ONCE AGAIN. Call insurance back they make me call att again and then they tell me my phone hasn't been active for months when I clearly just said I it recently just broke ???? att fix this issue after this I'm really considering switching to sprint and I have been with AT&T for past 8 years seriously ??? Plus they're are also charges of this plan of calling Mexico but my mom cancelled it years ago and can't even make a call out of the country?? But they are will charging us ??
