I wanted to add someone to my family plan so we went to the AT&T store to get "help", about 1 year ago. This person was on prepaid plan with ATTand they told us to switch for a postpaid plan and then to add the line. After doing it and paying the required fees, everything was fine except that yesterday my friend got a call from a collection agency saying there is a balance of $48.19 on a AT&T account. I called AT&T and they realized it was a mistake and put the balance to $0.
However, we can't call back the agency to tell them it was a mistake and AT&T customer service didn't want to do it for us. No number was displayed at the moment they called us and we don't know how to contact them.
We have never been notified (email, mail, phone are all up to dates on our AT&T accounts) that there was a balance due. Moreover, my friend was in prepaid before and people at the store told us that all fees to pay will be reflected on my own bill (the family plan one).
My friend credit score was decreasing slowly since months for no reasons, now we know why... we are not european in USA since 2 years, so 2 years of credit history only...
Everytime we go to the AT&T store, it is such a pain with all the mistakes they are doing...
Now I am wondering what can I do in order to tell the (unknown) collection agency that we don't have debt and make them to remove all the files they have on us.
Thanks!
