I have had issues with data overages. I have gone into AT&T stores and called multiple times. Of course, Iget the run around. Primarily, the charges are on one of our lines. I started turning off cellular data usage. Still got overages, literally, back to back to back. The phone was on wi-fi and no cellular data. Finally, someone told me that it could be the phone because some Iphones had data usage issues. I was told by AT&T to take the device to Apple and that they would "diagnose" it and give me something to bring back to them for charges to be refunded. I took the phone to Apple and they acted like they had never heard anything like that before, even though I personally know 2 people that had similar issues. They did however, after playing stupid, gave us a brand new phone (HMM??). Apple told me that they never give anything to give to providers. After I left the Apple store, I went straight to an AT&T store. They just called the 1 800 customer service number. I was on the phone for over an hour. The first guy tells me that they can tell that all of the charges are legitimate and basically too bad. I explained that I turned off the cellular data to the device and that there was no way that it could still be acrueing data usuage. He tried to tell me that there was no way for me to turn off the data on my device. Apparently, none of my previous contacts in regards to data usage showed on my account. ?? He offered me a very small fraction of a refund on the charges. I told him no that I was going to find a new provider and I was quickly transfered to another department. Pretty much the same crap here to except she offered more of a refund (still not even close to what I was initially told by another rep before I took the phone back to Apple) and a really good deal on a LARGE data plan. Reluctantly I accepted, mainly because I was tired of being on the phone with them. We have had the plan less than a month, and ironically, our data has gone over. Again, cellular data was turned off on devices unless attached to wifi. All apps closed out, wifi assist turned off, yada yada yada. This new plan was well over any previous data usage. After reading posts on here, I realized by checking our account, that ironically the day before our new month starts, we have massive overages. Pretty much every month. Now on our new family plan, everyone seems to be consuming more data even though we are being more restrictive. (Before we were on indiviudual plans, so now that we are sharing, we are limiting more until we see how it will work.) I have a couple lines elligible for upgrade. I AM NOT upgrading. I will be changing provider instead. Really tired of getting the run around. For the price I am paying in overages with AT&T, I can go to unlimited plans with another provider for cheaper. Then I will not have to worry about overages.
