I started the no contract plan that has me paying off my iphone monthly back in June. I recently moved out of the United States and no longer need an American phone, but still wanted to unlock and use the new iPhone I purchased through AT&T. I called in to cancel the service with AT&T and unlock the phone, I informed the woman on the phone that I would like to pay off the remaining balance for the phone because I need to use it in Canada. She then told me that was impossible and I questioned her why, she said that I couldn't pay off the balance until the next billing cycle. She then proceeded to cancel my service while I was informing her that I was told I could pay this balance off at anytime...she then told me it was too late to do anything because she cancelled my service, upset because this was not what I wanted I asked if there was a way to fix this, she said no and I was disconnected....I then waited 20 minutes to get on the line with someone else, who transferred me a supervisor who then transferred me to financing. Financing told me that there was no money that I owed to AT&T and told me how to unlock my phone...after following her steps I received a notification that my request to unlock the phone has been denied due to an unpaid balance. I would really like this issue resolved as I am no longer with service as AT&T has cancelled it and will not allow me to unlock the device.
